GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE ROUTE

This is well known Navimag voyage to the glacial wall of the Laguna San Rafael National Park- which departs Puerto Montt on Saturdays.  For those joining in P.Chacabuco, you will embark on Sunday at 18:00.  .

You will navigate through channels that formed as the result of the glaciers of the last ice age over twelve thousand years ago.  During the trip you will have the opportunity to see a variety of birds and sea animals, such as dolphins, sea lions and occasionally whales (killer and right whales) in the open gulfs.  This part of the planet continues to be wild and pristine and has inspired many writers such as Lord Byron, Jules Verne and Francisco Coloane (from Chiloé)

On the way south, the trip departs Puerto Montt (capital of the Lake District) on Mondays crossing the Reloncavi Sound and the Gulf of Ancud, with the backbone of the Andes to the East and the emerald islands of Chiloé to the West.  Crossing the Gulf of Corcovado you'll see the pointed peak of the volcano of the same name reaching 2300 meters from the sea (over 7500 ft).

Upon crossing the gulf one enters the Moraleda Channel with the countless islands of the Guaitecas Islands stretching to the south.  We'll pass through tiny fishing villages of Puerto Aguirre and Caleta Andrade before arriving at the large port of Puerto Chacabuco to off-load cargo.  We will then head towards our destination: the Laguna San Rafael National Park.

Once we arrive inside the "lagoon", you'll board small boats to take a trip among the ice bergs nearer the glacier.  Of course, you'll be invited to enjoy a whisky with 10 thousand year old ice!  For those trying to figure out the days- this will occur on Monday.

During the trip you will be able to disembark and put "your feet on the ground" in Puerto Chacabuco and Puerto Aysen with the possibility of a day trip (not included) into Coyhaique (can be arranged onboard).

For those doing the entire round trip from Puerto Montt, you will finish your trip on the 5th day
