From the airport at Puerto
Montt we値l transfer to cozy Bed and Breakfast in Puerto Varas. We値l meet
our Irish / Chilean guides and go over our itinerary for the trip, including
our safety meeting. Depending on our arrival time we may have time for a
rafting trip on the scenic Petrohue river in the afternoon or a hike in the
local National Park. Dinner will be in Puerto Varas and overnight in the
guesthouse. |
In the morning we値l take
the flight to Chaiten and then transfer by a roomy bus to Palena. We値l
spend the night at a local resort owned by our supply boat captain. Our
dinner will be "asado", or barbeque, and we値l overnight in comfy little
cabins. |
Our first paddling day will find us traversing the first section of the Palena River using inflatable rafts.
After a day's paddle
through scenic narrow canyons and awesome cascading waterfalls, we'll set up
camp near the home of a local rancher and share a dinner with him and his
family. |
We'll spend the day
paddling along side the Austral Trail. The rainforest landscapes will bring
us to another friend's home along the river for a Chilean feast and the
night's welcomed rest. |
We値l arrive at La Junta,
the first village since Palena, and the last section of inflatable paddling.
There we'll resupply and overnight in a local guesthouse. |
We'll paddle by sea kayak
to Melimoyu volcano. In the evening we will camp near the Puerto Bonito Hot
Springs some of the most beautiful ones in Patagonia. A perfect place to
relax after a few days of paddling. |
Today we will reach the river's end and the beginning of the winds and currents of the Pacific. In the afternoon, (depending on conditions) we'll arrive at Puerto Raul Marin Balmaceda, a little fishing village at the end of the river. We'll camp or overnight in a local hostel. |
We値l either travel to
Puerto Raul Marin or if we致e already arrived the day before we'll paddle
around the Pitipalena Fiord and meet dolphins, seals and black-necked swans
as they come in from the open sea. We値l overnight in a local hostel. |
Flight back from Puerto
Raul Marin Balmaceda to Puerto Montt. |
