Chile is an
accommodating country to travel in due to its friendly populace and good infrastructure.
Especially unique are the transportation systems: excellent
buses, planes and ferries. Tourism is relatively new and the country is not
inundated with visitors.
Buses: There
is a superb system of buses in the country which are very clean, comfortable and
punctual. Most long haul buses (from Santiago to Puerto Montt or
Santiago to Calama) travel overnight. There are economic options of
travel as well as the "salon cama" coaches with comfortable wide seats that
almost recline to beds.

Plane:
LanChile is the monopoly that is deeply entrenched in the country.
It offers superb service (better than most European and American
companies), however it is quite expensive for many routes. Sky
Airlines has begun to give LanChile competition, however user friendly
prices are still being anticipated.
Car Travel:
Chile is a relatively easy place for visitors to drive a rental car.
Most companies are good, although rates are expensive. Rental cars
often offer the only way for visitors wishing to visit National Parks
without going on group tours. |
